All members of the Badger Association have the opportunity to get involved by serving on a variety of different committees. Following, you will find the nine-committee options and a short explanation of each.
ACB Committee — members organize the program for the April membership meeting in recognition of the Badger Association’s affiliation with the American Council of the Blind. The members present at the April meeting elect the chair (delegate) and alternate. These delegates attend the national ACB convention in July and give a report about it at the September membership meeting. They also are responsible for writing a summary article for The Informer. The two representatives select the rest of their committee who will assist with planning ACB Day the following April.
By-Law Committee — was recently established as a standing committee. Any member can submit a by— law proposal to this committee for review and presentation to the general membership for voting.
Dog Guide Awareness Committee — members will help to educate prospective and present dog guide users about different aspects of guide dog care. These include: health, blending into society, support groups, traveling, grooming, and other subjects. An annual program is scheduled in July for dog guide users.
The Editorial Committee — membership put together the Association’s quarterly newsletter The Informer. Articles are written by Association members, the committee, staff and some items come from other sources. This committee meets every three months to put the material together for publication.
The Education and Information Committee — members report at general meetings on issues affecting people who are blind or visually impaired. This includes activities of the Wisconsin Council of the Blind; three of the committee members are the Badger Association’s delegates to the Council. Information is given on legislation, transportation or business meetings for other organizations. This committee does not have separate meetings during the month.
The Election Committee — has five members and one alternate. They count ballots at the January primary and regular April elections. In addition, their services may be needed if by— law proposals are submitted any time during the year. All ballots are sent by mail to members since transportation can make it difficult for many to attend meetings regularly.
Membership Committee — addresses concerns and difficult issues. They help members by providing opportunities to use their talents and skills for the Association.
Recreation and Welfare Committee — has approximately 15 members who plan dinners and events following the general membership meeting held on the first Saturday of each month. They also are in charge of decorating the lower level of the Badger Association of the Blind during the holiday season.
Ten-Year Club Committee — a party is sponsored and paid for each year by the Badger Association to recognize members in good standing for ten years or more. A chairman is elected at the party each year who appoints a committee to plan the party for the following year.
Committee appointments are made each April. We would like to answer any questions you may have about membership, serving on committees or other programs offered.
