Activities of Daily Living (ADL)

People who are adjusting to a visual impairment often have difficulty with everyday tasks of life. How can I take my medication safely? How can I identify my money? How can I make sure my clothes match? How can I cook a meal for myself? How can I tell what time it is? These are just some of the obstacles a person living with vision loss may encounter in their daily living environment.

Our rehabilitation instructors teach students what they need to know to function independently and safely at home and in their community.

The ADL instructional area provides training in the basic content areas of:

  • Food preparation
  •  Personal management
  •  Personal hygiene and grooming
  •  Nutrition
  •  Household maintenance
  •  Money management
  •  Sewing
  •  Use of time keeping devices
  •  Methods of organizing
