Workshops and Work Experience Placement: Topics Outline

Workshops (Enrollment of Individuals 16+ Years Old)

TIP Workshops (3 hours in duration) will be offered each semester; required release forms (sent upon semester assignment) are due two weeks before the first workshop.

Team Dynamics & Personal Assessment

  2. Personal Inventory: Interests, Values & Goals, and Portfolio
  3. Personal Data Sheet: Resources and Skills (used and learned)


Career Exploration & Job Search
  1. Career Connect, Career Exploration, and Professional Panel
  2. Job Searches, Qualifications, and Career Goals


Vision Awareness, Accommodation & Advocacy
  1. Vision Needs and Worksite Accommodations
  2. Self Advocacy and ADA


Application & Presentation
  1. Applications, Resumes, and Letters of Recommendation
  2. Interview Skills, Presentations (use of portfolio), and Business Meetings


Post Secondary Education
  1. School Types, Program Options, Student Resources, and Responsibilities
  2. Application timeframes, Bills (funding sources), Books, and Housing


Money Matters & Human Resources
  1. Taxes and Human Resources: Minimum Wage, Permits, and Benefits
  2. Credit Cards, Loans & Education, and Prime vs. Subprime
  3. Checking Account, Apartments, and Budgets: Living Costs


Work Expectations & Evaluation
  1. Work Expectations, Self Reflection, and Performance Evaluation
  2. Work Relationships: Supervisors, Staff, and Clients
  3. Conflict Resolution / Problem Solving: Work and Life Scenarios

Work Experience Placement (H.S. Junior through Young Adults)

TIP Work Experience Training will occur during the first week of placement. Prior to the start of placements, matched participants will complete workshop requirements, and orientation and mobility training will need to be provided to participants needing assistance with transportation routes to and from placements.

TIP Program Expectations and Evaluation of Work Behaviors include: initiative & self motivation; job skills and application, problem solving skills, appearance, leadership & teamwork, personal adaptability, responsibility & reliability, and communication skills.  TIP Work Experience Placement will provide support to assist in development of these area; participants will be assessed on growth through specific benchmark / indicators.
